SCOPE was incorporated on 13 January 1988 as Specific Cybernetics Pvt. Ltd. — becoming India's first organisation to design and develop test and measurement instruments capable of operating in the severe electromagnetic environments of high-voltage substations were we believed in providing “Simple solutions for difficult measurements ® ”The founding vision was precise: provide a solution that every high-voltage equipment operator (utilities, OEMs, Testers) in India was looking for a reliable, consistent and accurate measurement for high voltage— and build homegrown engineering solutions for it. That mission has not changed in four decades.
A year after its founding, SCOPE launched its first commercial product: an electronic “Circuit Breaker Time Interval Meter” designed to measure the operating (open and close) time of high-voltage circuit breakers. It was a modest instrument by today's standards — but it established SCOPE's core design philosophy of portability and field-rugged accuracy.The “SCOT 3000 EHVC” Circuit Breaker Time Interval Meter found immediate acceptance among Indian utilities and laid the foundation for what would become SCOPE's flagship product line “HISAC” — one of the most widely deployed CB analyser families in Asia.
SCOPE's HISAC 2406 Circuit Breaker Analyser was awarded Best Product at ELECRAMA 1996, India's premier electrical equipment exhibition. The recognition validated SCOPE's engineering approach and established the HISAC brand as the country's leading name in circuit breaker analysis. ELECRAMA is organised by the Indian Electrical & Electronics Manufacturers' Association (IEEMA) and represents the highest standard of product recognition in India's electrical industry. This was the first of multiple ELECRAMA awards SCOPE would go on to win.
SCOPE's founders established ISOSCELES Sales & Service Pvt. Ltd. (ISSPL) in 2006–07. ISOSCELES was built to provide 'Service with a Difference' — bringing SCOPE's engineering depth directly into substations through testing and commissioning. Headquartered in Pune with a nationwide team of qualified engineers, ISOSCELES became SCOPE Group's “Sustain” vertical — the hands-on service arm that extends asset life and ensures that India's High-Voltage substations stay operational long after commissioning day. Later, we expanded into operations and maintenance contracts.
SCOPE entered the high-voltage protection and automation market in 2009 with Control and Relay Panels (CRP) and Substation Automation Systems (SAS), thereby creating the “Run” vertical. This expansion moved SCOPE from switchyards to control rooms of the high-voltage grid networks — the panels and systems that control, protect, and automate the grid. This step completed a more integrated value proposition for power grids: improve reliability through preventive test instruments and testing services, and — through P&A — not only monitor & control the real-time grid network but also analyse and predict future failures before they happen. A single engineering partner across multiple high-voltage disciplines with one simple goal of maximising the reliability and efficiency of the grid.
2010 marked two significant steps. SCOPE established a dedicated International Business Division to formalise its growing export operations — bringing structured sales and support capability to customers across Asia, the Middle East, and LatAm. By this point, SCOPE instruments had already crossed international borders. In the same year, the SA30i Surge Arrestor Testing Instrument earned the Best Product award at ELECRAMA 2010, adding to SCOPE's growing list of industry recognitions and demonstrating that its innovative products were solving global high-voltage electrical grid challenges.
After the 2012 cascading grid outage in India that plunged 400 million people into total darkness for 13.5 hours, the Indian central transmission grid operator identified Point-on-Wave switching technologies as the solution for preventing such outages. SCOPE entered a strategic partnership with Vizimax Inc. of Canada — a specialist in Point-on-Wave (PoW) switching controllers. This collaboration introduced controlled switching technology to the Indian power market, enabling utilities to reduce transient overvoltages when energising transformers and reactors. The Vizimax partnership was SCOPE's major international technology alliance and represented its evolution from instrument manufacturer to smart grid technology integrator
The SA30i+ Wireless Leakage Current Analyser for Surge Arrestors received the Overall Category Award at ELECRAMA 2016 — the highest level of recognition at India's largest electrical equipment exhibition. The award distinguished the SA30i+ not just as the best in its class, but as one of the most significant innovations across the entire show. The SA30i+ brought wireless measurement capability to live EHV switchyards for the first time — eliminating the need for physical connections in energised bays up to 765 kV, dramatically improving site safety, and reducing test time. It remains one of SCOPE's most commercially successful and technically recognised instruments.
SCOPE's growing automation devices and software portfolio — encompassing substation automation systems, SCADA solutions, and early IoT integration work — earned recognition at the leading industry platform, India Smart Grid Forum, in 2019. These awards reflected SCOPE's strategic shift from a pure test-instrument manufacturer into a broader smart grid and automation solutions provider. This period coincided with the early development of what would become the OrxaGrid Infrastructure Intelligence Platform — the R&D work behind GAP, SEED, STEM, and BRANCH was underway, positioning SCOPE Group for the next generation of grid analytics and remote monitoring.
2023 was one of SCOPE's most active years in terms of technical output. STEM — a smart IoT sensor platform for distribution network monitoring — was commercially launched, extending OrxaGrid's hardware capability to feeders and distribution assets. SCOPE also won the Best Product award at ELECRAMA 2023, continuing a record of recognition at India's premier electrical exhibition.
SCOPE established a dedicated UK subsidiary in 2025 — SCOPE T&M-UK — to serve European customers with quick delivery and unparalleled after sales service support from calibration to repairs. European and Latin American clients now have quick and complete access to SCOPE Group's full product and solutions portfolio. The UK base provides the group with a strategic foothold in one of the world's most demanding high-voltage markets. The UK expansion is the culmination of more than a decade of international growth that began with SCOPE's export division in 2010. It marks SCOPE's transition from an Indian company that exports globally to a genuinely international engineering group — engineering precision, powering reliability, on every continent.
